When most people think of adventure travel, they don't think about trying something that has never been accomplished before, but that is what drives Helen Thayer who at the age of sixty-three along with her seventy-four-year-old husband, Bill decided to do by walking the entire 1600 mile length of the Gobi Desert in 2001.
Helen is known as one of the modern day explorers, skiing to the magnetic North Pole, living among wolves in Alaska, Kayaking in the Amazon and walked the entire length of the Sahara in preparation for this adventure! I found not only was the accomplishment amazing, but the book is written so well, it was impossible to put down.
Not only was I amazed by their tenacity, but I learned so much about the culture of the Gobi. It makes us realize that dreams really do come true for those who have the passion and preparation to make it happen!
