Review: Carhartt

Fifty Sense Seal of Approval Carhartt is known for work clothes but we have found that many of their clothes for great for the active person, whether working or playing. Not only do they do work clothes, but they are very aware now of the woman's body, rather than just putting men's work clothes on women.

Women’s Kentwood Jacket

We have found the coziest fleece jacket from Carhartt! Times are changing and Carhartt is getting very fashionable. We reviewed the Teal color and as soon as we put it on, we felt like we had cuddled in for the night. Besides being comfy, Carhartt keeps its reputation of practicality. This 100% textured polyester fleece is only 9.5 ounces.

The zippered fleece has and anti-pill face and back, a three piece attached hood, Left chest map pocket with a secure zipper closure, two large lower front pockets. The fleece feels just the right size, yet we were surprised when we could also put a sweater underneath. This definitely becomes the go to everyday cool weather jacket!

Women’s Cascade Jacket

We can’t say enough about this all around cool weather liner jacket. Carhartt now understands that although women can work and play hard, sometimes they still want to look like a woman. This jacket is so flattering because it is longer and has shape, narrower in the waist than the hips. The shell is 100% water resistant nylon, while the body lining is 100% polyester for breathability and comfort. We wore it out in the rain and the jacket beaded up well.

It features a detachable three piece hood with a hidden draw cord. We love the center front, two-way zipper with snap front storm placket. The interior stormcuffs with thumbholes are great when you don’t have gloves and it gets cool. The articulated elbows and the adjustable hem with drawcord and barrel lock adjusters add to the amazing comfort of the jacket. We love lots of pockets, and besides the two inside, there are three zippered pockets on the outside. This makes a perfect jacket to do outside activities in because you don’t have to carry a purse or bag for your essentials.

Weathered Duck 5-Pocket Pant

Over the hill and through the woods to grandma’s house we went to test out the Weathered Duck 5-Pocket Pant. It might help to mention grandma lives on a hill in the woods of northern Michigan and it was winter. That woman put us to work as soon as we stepped foot on her property. Some of the best product testing is when you forget you are doing it.

We cut about a cord of wood, shoveled a never-ending driveway and took our border collie for a hike through the woods. The Weathered Duck were as tough as the paws of a dog hiking the AT but still as comfortable as your favorite pair of jeans. That was day one. We spent a week there and every single day these pants got some use. Actually, I am wearing them right now as I type this.

Probably one of the biggest compliments is they are the first pair of pants that get packed when travelling. They look great with a flannel, sweater or just a t-shirt. They washed up really well and the cuffs fit over boots. Just because you are “up north” does not mean you have to rough it. One of the best pair of pants we have ever tested!

Quick Duck Woodward Traditional Jacket

This is just a sharp looking jacket that is as tough as all get out. We got tired trying to wear this jacket out. In the middle of winter, there is no shortage of tough jobs to do. The Quick Duck™ kept us warm on a northern Michigan winter night. This is a very well thought out jacket for anyone who needs a good all-purpose piece. It stands up to the elements and looks good too.

They use a midweight polyester insulation on the interior. The jacket is light and has a great range of motion when out working. The nylon lining is very comfortable and makes it easy to slide your arms in. There are six pockets in total two on the chest, two inside and two more on the sides. All have large openings so they are easy to access with gloves on. The sleeves have an inner cuff so you can keep the chills from creeping up. We love that the Quick Duck™ has a drop tail to protect the backside. The collar is a mock style so it zips right up to the chin. The Quick Duck™ canvas is triple stitched and water repellant.

Women’s Alpine Vest

This Women’s down filled vest is functional and flattering! A down vest is an essential piece in your life if you live in any cold-weather climate. It has to be a performance piece, not an accessory. Carhartt understands function! Their pieces are meant to work while you do.

However, this doesn’t mean that we can’t feel and look like women while satisfying function. The Alpine down vest is incredibly warm and durable but has a gusseted fit and drop tail creating a flattering silhouette. With an attached hood and large, warm, hand pockets this vest has all the features!

Hooded Sweatshirt

As soon as the hooded zipped sweatshirt was delivered to our tester, it became a favorite article of clothing. The mid weight sweatshirt feels more like a sweater because the material is so soft but durable. It features an embroidered Carhartt logo which dresses it up. The raglan sleeves and longer length make it comfortable in any situation.

Carhartt Work-Dry Base Layer Lightweight Thermal Top and Bottom

The lightweight Carhartt thermal top and bottom are perfect for cool, active days when you're looking for a little extra warmth. Made of 100% polyester, the thermals wear comfortably without "sticking" to other layers of clothing, unlike cotton might. These thermals feature a grid pattern on the interior to improve moisture management, an anti-odor fabric treatment, reinforced stitching on all seams and the top features a tagless neck label to add to the comfort

Women's Waterproof Breathable Jacket

We are absolutely thrilled with my Carhartt waterproof breathable Jacket. The jacket is made from a durable nylon with a special water resistant finish. Because there is a breathable membrane, body heat can escape even when it is raining.

There is a draw cord adjustable hood, but it is removable, making it a little more practical. The styling is flattering to any body type and has a draw cord at the bottom to make it more form fitting. Practical and stylish, this has become one of my favorite pieces for any outdoor activity.

WB018 Women's Modern Fit Jean- Straight Leg

These jeans are made for the active, over fifty woman. They are stylish, yet have a great fit. Because they have stretch material, the jean waist stays in place when we sat down or bent over. The color is great and they are sturdy. After using them for a year, there is very little wear. Carhartt realizes that not everyone wearing jeans is twenty.

WJ097 Women’s Sandstone Detroit Jacket/Sherpa Lined

Although Carhartt is known for work clothes, they are also aware that women like their clothes to be stylish. Our tester grew up in the Detroit area, so the name of this jacket appealed to her, but the style is what convinced her to wear it. It has the rugged look that Carhartt is famous for, but the added touches of the corduroy contrasting color color, and the great fit. Our tester felt comfortable working outside, yet also going shopping in it. Multi- purpose is one of our criteria and this fits the bill.

C01 Men's Duck Chore Coat/Blanket-Lined

This jacket is great for those cool days in Northern Michigan. Our tester loved the rugged look and wear of this jacket, plus the fact that it was dressy enough to do errands. The cloth contrasting collar and cuffs, along with the blanket lining, makes this a the perfect all around mid weight jacket.

K185 Men’s Heavyweight Hooded Zip-Front Sweatshirt

It is hard to find a sweatshirt that is warm enough for those cold day projects. This hooded zip front sweatshirt fits the bill. Usually when he started a project, he was cooler and had the sweatshirt zipped, sometimes even with the hood up. As the day got warmer, or as he got more frustrated, he warmed up and appreciated the full zip to cool off without taking the sweatshirt off. He loved the elastic on the sleeves to keep them out of the way. This is the sweatshirt that stays on a hook by the door for ready use.

B159 Men’s Loose-Fit Canvas Carpenter Jean

Not everyone who works outside for a living is in construction. We gave these to a tester that works as a grounds superintendant. He swears by these jeans, knowing they will look better than the average jean, but be rugged and warm enough to wear daily. His only comment is he wished he was given five pair to test!
