Review: GoLite
Ultralight Outdoor Clothing
"Therefore I GoLite." This is their motto. This is what drives them. Less is more. Less is liberation. Less is their passion. But they didn't invent this philosophy. You did. GoLite understood that you want to get away from all the stuff—the blaring music, the gadgets, the never-ending load of work and the glut of more, more, more. So you go light. You head out on the trail, because you want to experience nature on its own terms.
They not only believe in light, but also in sustainability, innovation, and inspiration. We love their following quote. "We know nature has the power to make us all happier. It's the joy of a long run before everyone else wakes up, watching the sunrise after a mile of killer switchbacks and fi nishing with bagels, coffee and good friends. Or a hike after work that culminates at happy hour. Whatever it is, it's that moment of aerobic-induced clarity that makes every day better. This experience is not limited to exotic locations and bagging the highest peaks. Nature is everyday. It's all around us, outside our front doors and in our backyards. GoLite is about discovering nature in unexpected, everyday places."
Women's Tumalo Pertex 2.5-Layer Storm Jacket
Just when we think we have found the best jacket, an improved model comes out. We were so impressed with this jacket, we couldn't find anything to improve on. Let's start the review with the fabric, Pertex. This durable and extremely lightweight fabric has exceptional stretch and provides the optimum balance of waterproofness and breathability. The "dry touch" hydrophilic PU coating reduces internal garment condensation and eliminates the sticky, clammy feel of other coatings.
Now we can talk about all the goodies that make this special. The jacket is longer so it is flattering for the boomer figure and has a draw cord at the lower edge to make the fit even better. We are not sure if they had the boomer in mind with all the details, but we appreciate that there is a zipper that can be opened from the top and bottom, the soft fleece by the face, the vent zippers for changes in internal and external temperatures and the wonderful colors. Our favorite feature is the hood. It can be easily cinched, and had a visor where no matter how cinched down the hood is, we could still see! This jacket has large pockets inside and out and can be used to pack the jacket for travel. All this and a large only weighs 7.9 ounces!
Demaree Canyon 800 Fill Down JacketThis jacket not only lives up to the reputation of GoLite for being incredibly lightweight, weighing in at only 12oz, but it is also stylish and flattering, something we don't normally associate with a down jacket.
It is contoured to fit the body, providing superior warmth while creating a flattering silhouette. There is a shock cord bottom hem closure for to keep the chill out on those bitterly windy days.
There are 3 pockets- 2 exterior hand warmer pockets and one interior media pocket. I also use this media pocket as a key pocket if I am just hitting the trail for a day hike or a security pocket while travelling.
Pertex microlight is some of the softest and lightest fabric available while maintaining proper strength and abrasion resistance. Even though this jacket is incredibly lightweight it is not a delicate piece, definitely durable enough to hit the trail, the rock, the slopes, the rivers, and the cities.
Living in Michigan we are no strangers to the blustery cold, but we don't necessarily want to dress as an Eskimo, thus hindering our outdoor experience. This is an incredible solution to the cold to ensure that we can continue to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air throughout the winter months!
Stelvio 1/3-Zip Travel SweaterGoLite claims that the Stelvio travel sweater is a technical and contemporary version of your favorite winter sweater. It proves to be exactly that!
It is super comfortable, sporting a brushed fleece interior that makes you feel like you are wrapped in a snuggly fleece blanket, and a sweater-knit front with a stylish design that is flattering on any female body type- both made of recycled polyester fabric.
There is a secure passport front pocket making this sweater not only a great day-to-day comfort but a great travel sweater as well. It is definitely stylish enough that this could be a great day-to-night piece.
It has a 1/3-zip for ventilation but it also makes it easier to get on and off. I wear glasses and it is so nice to not have to take my glasses off when pulling this sweater over my head- not to mention is doesn't mess up my hair!
Whether living your daily life in cold weather, hitting the trail or travelling in the winter months, this is a great multi-purpose sweater.
