Adventure Travel:
Dick Miller Kayaking

Dick Miller kayaking

Trail Days attracts people of all walks, but mostly those that are active in the outdoors. It gave us an opportunity to meet so many people that have involved themselves in a world of adventure travel.

It was amazing to talk to people about their different travels, trips, and passions. Not only does Dick Miller share that passion, but he has also incorporated it into his livelihood. He guides adventures into the New River.

The trips that Dick leads are the true definition of adventure travel. I was highly intrigued by his knowledge scoping so many different activities. He has been guiding white water rafting and kayaking trips down the New River for over twenty years.

He prides himself on not only his knowledge of the rapids, but also of the support group that he has put together over the years, from guides to handlers. It is important to him to incorporate safety with enjoyment.

I sat and talked with him for a significant period of time and was so thrilled by his passion for wanting to get people into the outdoors and into the activities of his specialty.

Just in the two days he was there he convinced his friend, 80 years of age, to go repelling for the first time. We saw him after his adventure, and the smile on his face was from ear to ear. The adrenaline from a 140 foot repel was still going strong.

What might one do on one of Dick Millers trips? A small group, from 9-12 people would travel to the New River in West Virginia. You will camp for four days, don't worry if you've never camped before – Dick is an Eagle Scout and current scout leader, and you will have three days of activities.

He likes to keep things flexible to the group, weather conditions, and rapid reports, so you will have the option of 1 day of hiking, repelling, rafting, and sightseeing. He keeps the prices of the trips near cost, saying that it is enough for him just to get people out experiencing the adventure. His only criteria are that everyone has a great time!
